Sorry I've been so quiet. Now that Halloween is passed, I've been concentrating on non-sewing things. Both of my work schedules and holiday schedules have me very busy. However, I do have some plans for some projects. I bought some fabric to make long length black bloomers (I only have 1 white pair of long bloomers). I've been needing these for awhile. I still have all of my fabric & supplies to make the Mary Magdalene replica dress (actual MM dress can be found in a previous post) so I want to make that before it gets too late. I also want to make a bolero for Lolita & an old fashioned robe for my nightgown.
As for next Halloween, the Endless Night Ball's theme is going to be Steampunk. I'm excited to do this. I've been toying with different ideas for it (granted I am going to Nola next year). I don't think this will take as much time or effort to do so I think I may make a Renaissance Faire gown as well. We'll see how my funds are first. If I do make the Renn gown, I am thinking of doing an Elizabethan style since I already have a Tudor gown made. I have the patterns too so I don't need to buy any. I also have the hoop made & a bum roll bought. So I just need to construct the gown & a headpiece of some sort. Having the undergarments done, makes things so much easier & quicker. It's cheaper too as steel boning can get pricey.
I hope to get some projects started soon. Although the reality will most likely be next year. No matter, it will give me things to do when my hours @ the Playhouse get lower early next year & its just too darn cold to go outside.
If you have any patterns for a renn garb, let me know what ones work. I may make something nice for next fall. And I couldn't stomach the prices of the garb sold at the faire XD
ReplyDeleteThe one I used wasn't a great one from McCall's. I think it's out of print too. However, Simplicity has some really nices ones. Pattern # 2589 is a Tudor style gown and goes with pattern # 2621. Another one is # 3782. I have both of these patterns. I haven't used them yet though. They're pretty close to what they should look like. I do online costume research for inspiration to make it look more period. Mind you pattern 3782 doesn't seem to come with a hoop pattern. Pattern 2621 should work fine. Just be sure to NEVER use a hoop that has only one piece of boning at the bottom. The shape you will get will be horrendous. Surefire way to ruin a great costume. Don't forget a corset either. Let me know if you want the sources I use for supplies & stuff. Good luck on the project, I can't wait to see what you make. Also, I agree on the costumes sold @ Faires. Some aren't made that well & the details are sometimes cheap looking. And they are way overpriced.
