1860's Bodice

I think I've decided what I want my bodice to look like for my Halloween costume.  I'm going to buy this pattern from Truly Victorian (see below left)
and turn that into this
I will use my antique black lace & some leftover black velveteen.  I may keep the sleeves the same as in the pattern though.  I like the little bows too.  I just don't like that ruffle top.  The bodice will be tucked into the skirt (see second pic).  I really like the little buttons.  I can get a matching one for the waistband.  I was thinking of using some black velveteen on my overskirt.  That will tie in both top & bottom.  Why don't I buy the pattern on the right?  It has a 24-26 inch waist.  There's no way in my lifetime I will have a waist that small & don't want to do size alterations.  Granted I'm trying to workout currently, but it will take more time & effort to get that small.  Mainly I want my neckline & arms to look good for now.  I'll concentrate on the rest later.
